Jacques Loussier - Toccata And Fugue in D Minor
It’s funny to me that Oscar Peterson, one the pianists I admire the most hated Loussier’s guts. I love Loussier’s rewriting of Bach. It’s sophisticated, it swings like hell, and his trio at that time was the best ever. Vincent Charbonnier in particular is a stellar double bass player whose carrier was sadly cut short due to poor health.
If you enjoy this and want to find a record of it, beware: there are three Jacques Loussier Trio formations with different accompanyists. This trio is historically the second (and in my opinion the best) and the Toccata (amongst other amazing pieces) can be found on Jacques Loussier Plays Bach.
I just love Jacques Loussier, Bach and Jazz, two of the best things there are ever, combined! Plus, check out that 5-string double bass.
Sozzles about it being marginally out of sync.
