the problem with those ‘missing person’ posts is that if someone goes missing in sydney the post is hardly going to be helpful when someone from toronto sees it on their dashboard and starts raking their brains for a memory of this person on the street
and no one ever writes where the person went missing
I’ve never even seen the name of the country they live in on one of those posts
I understand doing whatever you can in a time like that and turning to tumblr of all places but you have to put proper details on it before you tell people to keep a look out and call this number if you see anything
And if they do get found, relatively fine and dandy as 95% of quickly them are, here in Australia at least, (source) then there is no way of recalling the initial tumblr post.
It takes on a life of its own, being reblogged again and again, across the world by those totally unaware of the way that the situation has happily resolved itself. A follow-up post detailing that all’s well again is never going to get the exposure of the first post.
